They deliver millions of cubic meters of alluvium annually to the region. As a result, the deposits have formed several islets which are extremely fertile and covered with lush green vegetation. Ha Tienwasonce part of Cambodia, the area was subject to Thai incursions. The Kh’mer governor, an immigrant from the Chinese ‘Mac’ clan, turned to Vietnam for support in 1708.
